A House for Love
Conceptual Project

SUMMARY: In life and in architecture wholeness comes through diversity, not singularity. This house is for a pair of impassioned lovers seeking growth through togetherness. In designing it I contemplated an effect first, then chose images or principles that would convey it. Edgar Allen Poe described this design method in his 1846 essay "The Philosophy of Composition.".

I can suffer the terror of my single soul no more.
My love is gone forevermore.
Only once I woke alone and found I too was a day past gone.
I now anoint our place throughout with liquid fire thrown about.
And one last time I force myself, my love in my arms, yet so alone,
up to our lookout in the sky.
I lay her down and beside her lie.
Some flint, a spark, and the end of love's lore.
We shall suffer nevermore.
